Walcott Studio - Frame Shop
A properly framed portrait is like a story with a perfect ending. Even the earliest murals had simple borders. Walcott Studio focuses on the aesthetics of proper framing.
When selecting a picture frame, consider the following:
Fundamentals of Good Design...
Artwork can be vastly enhanced with the correct custom frames, mats and fillets that harmonize with your artwork and coordinate with the decor of your home or office. This draws the viewer's eyes to the image, creating a sense of importance. Proper framing completes the artwork.
Your Decor, Lighting and Mood...
Continue in your framing, the same mood and sensibility that the artist expressed while creating your artwork. Artists use many different tools to express themselves: form, content, lighting, subject, composition, color and design. At Walcott we keep all of this in mind while complimenting your priceless artwork and décor.
Color and Proportion...
Determine where your art will be displayed, how much space is available and from what distance it will be viewed. This reveals whether matting and framing, or just framing, is most complimentary. All borders do not have to be the same size. Wide borders have become popular in recent years, especially in the presentation of photography. The selection of mat and frame width and colors are a matter of eliminating elements that distract.
The Lasting Qualities...
We mount 8x10 and larger portraits on archival backing to prevent harmful "acids" from damaging the artwork. When selecting a protective covering, you have many options. Non-glare glass minimizes glare, but causes darker colors to appear milky. Preservation glass offers superior clarity while reducing glare and providing 97% ultra-violet (UV) protection. Our most popular finish is "Sandstone," which reduces glare while providing some UV protection.
